BA (Hons) Business Entrepreneurship

The BA (Hons) Business Entrepreneurship programme is designed to provide students with a fundamental business knowledge and encourage innovative thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset. The programme's mission is to nurture students' journeys to graduation and prepare them to launch and lead their own ventures or excel as intrapreneurs.

Course Overview

The programme blends academic rigour with practical opportunity and city-centre industry engagement, preparing students for impactful careers in entrepreneurship and beyond. Students will study in a city with a wide range of employers and a demand for ambitious graduates.

Year 1

• Developing Professional Competencies: This module equips students with the skills, knowledge, and techniques to undertake academic work and identify professional competencies in their desired career path.
• Fundamentals of Starting a Business: This module provides a comprehensive introduction to entrepreneurship, covering different types of entrepreneurs, business models, and contemporary issues in entrepreneurship.
• Managing Innovation: The module explores key concepts, categories, and sources of innovation, emphasizing collaboration and the management of innovation systems.
• Start-up Projects: This module entails a practical hands-on start-up project where students work in teams to create and validate a business idea, develop a product or service, and showcase them to industry experts.

Year 2

• Enterprise Consultancy Projects: Students gain practical insights into managing a small or medium-sized business through consultancy and mentoring, working on a consultancy project for a small business.
• Project Management for Entrepreneurs: This module equips students with comprehensive skills in managing projects, following the Project Management Institute (PMI) approach.
• Core Functions for SME Owners: The module focuses on core functions essential for small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners, including production, operations, marketing, and human resource management.
• Technology Skills for Professional Excellence: This module develops digital, technological, and professional competencies needed to excel in modern entrepreneurial and sustainable business environments.

Year 3

• Responsible Leadership for a Sustainable Future: The module fosters responsible leadership, integrating corporate social responsibility, ethical decision-making, and sustainable business practices.
• The Entrepreneur's Mindset and Business Strategy: This module incorporates workshops to develop and articulate entrepreneurial thinking and practices, exploring strategic issues in entrepreneurship.
• Managing Finances: The module equips students with core concepts in business finance, enhancing their ability to manage and navigate key financial management issues.
• International Collaborative Project: Students engage in international collaborative projects centred around entrepreneurial activities and their own business ideas, working with international partners.

Entry Requirements

• Typical Offer: 104-112 UCAS tariff points
• IELTS Score: 6.0 overall with no individual element below 5.5
• UK Students: Level 3 qualifications, including GCE A levels, Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma, and Access to HE Diploma
• International Students: IB Diploma, IELTS, and country-specific entry requirements
