BA (Hons) Business Management
The BA (Hons) Business Management programme has been developed, in collaboration with employers, to equip students with the knowledge, practical experience, and leadership skills needed to succeed in the modern world. This programme offers a comprehensive blend of theory, practice, and local industry engagement, ensuring graduates have both confidence and clarity about their future.
Course Overview
Our BA (Hons) Business Management programme is built around core themes designed to prepare students for the modern business world. These include professional development with a focus on leadership and communication; commercial acumen to foster entrepreneurial and real-world thinking; and global citizenship promoting sustainability and cultural awareness.
The programme is delivered by research-active academics based in our triple-accredited business school. During the course, students will have many opportunities to connect with the industry, including frequent guest lectures, consultancy challenges, and optional international placements.
Year 1
- Professional Development Portfolio: This module introduces the professional portfolio that students will complete during their degree, showing how their management knowledge, skills, and behaviors grow over time.
- Enterprise and Finance: This module gives students hands-on experience in taking on the role of a business leader, focusing mainly on financial skills and understanding how financial decisions connect to other areas like marketing, operations, and strategy.
- Introduction to Global Citizenship: This module introduces the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and shows how they relate to global and local issues, helping students build skills and knowledge needed to adapt and support a safer, more sustainable world.
- Customer Experience Innovation: This module introduces innovation by focusing on customer experience, using creative thinking to come up with new ideas for better customer experiences and testing them through market research.
Year 2
- Managing and Leading High Performing Teams: This module helps students build confidence and skills in coaching, mediation, and using evidence-based practices to support high-performance teams.
- Operational Excellence: Diagnostic and Analytical Tools: This module focuses on operations management, covering key theories, principles, and techniques that help businesses gain a competitive edge.
- Management Development and Employability: This module develops a strong understanding of professional identity and how it relates to others, covering topics like time management, goal setting, and effective listening.
- Option modules:
- Business in Action Project: A work-integrated module focusing on the practical aspects of launching a business, emphasizing collaboration and the interconnections between different functions.
- Business in Action Work Based Learning: This module offers students a valuable opportunity to connect their everyday job responsibilities to business theories by applying their business knowledge within a real-world setting.
Year 3
- International Strategic Organisation: This module teaches students how to analyze and develop effective strategies in a fast-changing global environment, covering advanced strategic management concepts, tools, and frameworks.
- Business Transformation: Consultancy Project: In this module, students enhance their professional profile and commercial acumen while gaining hands-on experience in a client-facing consultancy role, driving meaningful change and transformation.
- Option modules:
- Sustainability Impact Project: This module engages students in the planning and execution of a sustainability project, developing their sustainability competencies in preparation for graduate employment.
- Community Impact Project: Students collaborate with local communities to identify and address pressing social issues, developing a comprehensive project plan aimed at creating social innovations that solve community-related problems.
Study and Assessment
- Study: The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and independent study, with the proportion of each varying by year.
- Assessment: The course is 100% coursework, with assessments designed to test students' knowledge, skills, and behaviors in a practical and applied manner.
Placements
The BA (Hons) Business Management degree offers the chance to spend a year getting a taste of professional life, either through a placement or by studying abroad. This experience not only develops core skills and understanding of how business operates but also demonstrates to employers that students are ready to get to work.
Entry Requirements
- Typical offer: 120-128 UCAS tariff points.
- IELTS score: 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5, taken within two years of the course start date.
- UK students: Level 3 qualifications, including GCE A levels, Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma, Access to HE Diploma, UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma, OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma, and T levels.
- International students: IB Diploma, IELTS score, and country-specific entry requirements.
Fees and Funding
Tuition fees for the 2026/27 academic year are still being finalized. Information on 2025/26 standard undergraduate fees for UK/Channel Islands and EU/Non-EU international students is available.
