BA (Hons) Economics (Foundation Year)

The BA (Hons) Economics (Foundation Year) is designed to prepare students for studying on any of the economics pathways. It helps develop the skills and knowledge needed to study for the full honors degree, even if students don't currently meet the academic requirements.

This course is part of the Department of Finance and Economics at Manchester Met. It provides a foundation year that prepares students for further study in economics. The course covers various topics, including business in a global and national context, approaches to leading and managing in organizations, and analytical skills.

Year 1

In the first year, students study eight 15-credit modules, including:

Study and Assessment

  • Study: 25% lectures, seminars, or similar; 75% independent study
  • Assessment: 90% coursework; 10% examination

Placements

Students have the opportunity to do a placement, study, or work abroad in Year 3 of their degree. This includes work placements, study abroad, and working abroad, providing valuable work experience and cultural exchange.


Entry Requirements

  • Typical offer: 72-80 UCAS tariff points
  • IELTS score: 5.5 overall with no individual element below 5.5
  • UK students: 72-80 UCAS tariff points, with specific requirements for Level 3 and Level 2 qualifications
  • International students: IB Diploma with minimum 24 points overall or 72-80 UCAS Tariff points from Higher Level, with specific IELTS requirements
