Year 1

Students will study eight 15-credit modules. The following list of modules is indicative and may be subject to change.

  • Study Skills: This module aims to equip students with the knowledge and understanding in areas such as academic writing, personal and professional development.
  • Business Intelligence: The main aim of this module is to introduce students to the vital role that data analysis plays in modern organisations and equip them with related fundamental skills.
  • Fundamentals of Marketing: This module introduces students to the fundamentals of marketing.
  • Finance for Business: The main aim of this module is to introduce students to the theories and concepts of finance in a business environment.
  • Introduction to Management: This module will introduce students to the importance of creativity and responsible management in business decision-making.
  • Understanding and Managing People: The main aim of this foundational module is to enable students to appreciate introductory topics related to understanding and managing people at work.
  • Customer Service Management: There is a critical need in all business sectors for the delivery of good customer service.
  • Understanding the Events, Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Industries: The events, hospitality, sport, and tourism sectors continue to be significant contributors to the global economy.

Study and Assessment

  • Study: Year 1: 25% lectures, seminars, or similar; 75% independent study
  • Assessment: Year 1: 100% coursework; 0% examination

Placements

If students progress onto a full degree course, they will have the opportunity to do a placement, study, or work abroad in between Year 2 and Year 3 of the full degree.

  • IELTS score: 5.5 overall with no individual element below 5.5
  • UK students:
    • Level 3 qualifications: 72-80 UCAS tariff points
    • Level 2 qualifications: GCSE grade D/3 in English Language or Level 2 Functional Skills English pass and GCSE grade D/3 in Mathematics or Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics pass
  • International students:
    • IB Diploma: IB Diploma with minimum 24 points overall or 72-80 UCAS Tariff points from Higher Level
    • IELTS: 5.5 overall with no individual element below 5.5
