The BA (Hons) International Business Management (Foundation Year) is designed to prepare students for studying the BA (Hons) International Business Management degree. This course helps students develop the skills and knowledge needed to study for the full honors degree, even if they don't currently meet the academic requirements.

  • Business Intelligence: Introduces students to the vital role that data analysis plays in modern organizations and equips them with related fundamental skills.
  • Fundamentals of Marketing: Introduces students to the fundamentals of marketing, including marketing orientation and practice, the marketing environment, marketing research, and marketing applications of consumer psychology and behavior.
  • Finance for Business: Introduces students to the theories and concepts of finance in a business environment.
  • Business Economics: Provides an applied introduction to key theoretical aspects of microeconomics and macroeconomics through a range of case studies, policy debates, and application to topical issues.
  • Introduction to Management: Introduces students to the importance of creativity and responsible management in business decision-making, before outlining business strategy.
  • Understanding and Managing People: Enables students to appreciate introductory topics related to understanding and managing people at work.
  • Customer Service Management: Focuses on the challenges and strategies for managing customer service, particularly in the economic sectors of events, hospitality, sport, and tourism.

Study and Assessment

  • Study: Year 1 - 25% lectures, seminars, or similar; 75% independent study.
  • Assessment: Year 1 - 90% coursework; 10% examination.

Placements

If students progress onto the full degree course, they will have the opportunity to do a placement, study or work abroad in Year 3 of their degree.
