BA (Hons) International Relations (with a modern language)

Overview

Studying international relations with a language gives you the opportunity to step out onto the global stage. This course is about using theories and models to best explain and understand power in the world, why the world is the way it is, and how we can change it.

Course Overview

These courses give you the opportunity to study international relations in combination with another language. An international relations degree will help you to gain appreciation of how states, international organisations, and non-state actors interact on the global stage.

Year 1

In Year 1 you will study units designed to give you the key skills and ideas needed for the rest of your degree.

Year 2

In Year 2, you will take further language and international relations units.

Year 3

In Year 3, you will have the option to spend a year on placement or studying abroad. You'll then return to Manchester Met for your final year.

Study and Assessment

  • Year 1: 25% lectures, seminars or similar; 75% independent study
  • Year 2: 25% lectures, seminars or similar; 75% independent study
  • Year 3: 25% lectures, seminars or similar; 75% independent study
  • Assessment: 100% coursework in all years

Placements

After your second year you can choose to progress to your final year or take an optional year to go on placement or studying abroad.


Entry Requirements

  • Typical offer: 104-112 UCAS tariff points
  • IELTS score: 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5
  • UK students: 104-112 UCAS tariff points, with specific requirements for different qualifications
  • International students: IB Diploma with minimum 26 points overall or 104 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects
