Program Overview
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
Overview
The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course at Manchester Metropolitan University is a three-year undergraduate program that aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional values required to become a confident and independent physiotherapist. The course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Course Information
The course is divided into three years, with each year building on the previous one. The first year focuses on introducing students to the core values of the NHS constitution and preparing them for the challenges of working as a physiotherapist in modern-day healthcare. The second year builds on the knowledge from the first year, focusing on patient management skills and rehabilitation. The third year prepares students for the transition to professional practice, with opportunities to select an area of physiotherapy for evidence-based practice options and develop a research project.
Entry Requirements
The typical offer for the course is ABB at A Level, with UCAS tariff points. Students must also have a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and occupational health clearance. International students must have an IELTS score of 7.0 with no component below 6.5.
Fees and Funding
Tuition fees for the 2026/27 academic year are still being finalized. However, information on 2025/26 standard undergraduate fees for UK/Channel Islands and EU/Non-EU international students is available.
Careers Support and Prospects
Graduates from the course usually begin their physiotherapy careers by working as band 5 physiotherapists, on rotation positions in NHS hospitals. However, as a chartered physiotherapist, graduates could work in the NHS or the private sector, in hospitals, sports clubs, in the community, and care homes, and schools.
Study and Assessment
The course is assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations. In the first year, 100% of the assessment is through coursework, while in the second year, 100% is also through coursework. In the third year, 75% is through coursework, and 25% is through examinations.
Placements
The course includes supervised practice placements in a clinical setting, managing real patients. The placements are allocated across the first and second years to ensure that students experience the provision of healthcare in acute, community, and rehabilitation settings.
Additional Information
The course has a dedicated placements team to manage and negotiate placement partnerships. Students must also complete an Occupational Health Assessment and have a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
