Overview
The MSc/PgDip/PgCert Place Management and Leadership course is a part-time program developed in partnership with the Institute of Place Management (IPM). This course aims to equip students with the practical skills to succeed and develop into confident, reflective place leaders.
Course Information
- The course is taught via a blended learning approach, combining online learning and tutor support with in-person student residential workshops.
- The program consists of three qualifications: PgCert, PgDip, and MSc, with students initially applying for the PgCert.
- The PgCert takes approximately 8 months to complete, while the PgDip takes 16 months, and the MSc takes 2 years.

Year 1
- All students enter through the PgCert route, completing two modules in the first 8 months of study.
- Core modules include:
- Place Management and Leadership
- Place Marketing, Branding, and Communication
Year 2
- Students completing the PgDip or full MSc will study one core module in their second year.
- Core modules include:
- Place and Economic Development
- Place Research and Data Analysis
- Dissertation in Place Management and Leadership (for MSc students)
Study and Assessment
- Part-time, with 20% lectures, seminars, or similar, and 80% independent study.
- Assessment is 100% coursework, with no practical or examination components.
Entry Requirements
- Applications are welcomed from place practitioners with relevant experience.
- Degree-equivalent professional qualifications are also accepted.
- Relevant UK honors degree, at least a 2:2, or international equivalent.
- English Language Requirements: IELTS with an overall score of 6.5, with no less than 5.5 in any category.
Fees and Funding
- UK and Channel Island students: part-time fee £1917 per 30 credits.
- EU and non-EU international students: part-time fee £3750 per 30 credits.
- Additional costs include travel and accommodation for residential workshops, and optional costs for books and printing.
