About this Programme

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship aims to accelerate the career development of high-potential employees and drive significant improvements in organisational performance.

This engaging high-level programme is for aspiring senior leaders and enables apprentices to develop strategic leadership skills and knowledge to take the next steps in their career.

Apprentices will follow a plan of learning to meet the Senior Leader standard that will include content covering:

  • Leading Self and Others
  • Contemporary Drivers of Strategic Change
  • Accounting and Finance for Senior Leaders
  • Strategic Marketing and Communications
  • Strategy Formulation
  • Strategic Operations and Project Management

Apprentices will be taught in our prestigious, Triple Accredited Business School.

On completion of the Senior Leader Apprenticeship, there may be the option to undertake a top-up programme to achieve a MSc in Strategic Leadership degree. This will sit outside of the apprenticeship funding band and will incur an additional cost, which is to be confirmed.

Course Length and Approach

The programme will be delivered over 18 months with 15 months of teaching and then a further three months to complete the Strategic Project Management proposal and complete the end-point assessment.

A blended delivery model is planned for this programme with structured online learning, augmented by face-to-face ‘immersive’ learning days. Action learning sets will be utilised to encourage the co-creation of learning from the diversity of roles, industries, and individuals across the group, as well as a range of masterclasses and peer networking opportunities.

Apprentices will attend university for 12 days in the initial 12 months of the programme and then a further four days for the remainder of the 18-month programme.

Qualification Awarded

All successful graduates will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership from Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as a Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

This course has been designed for high-potential, ambitious professionals.

Applicants will be assessed on an individual basis. Typically, successful applicants will have:

  • at least three years of senior management experience
  • a 2:2 degree or above from a recognised university or an equivalent academic or professional qualification. However, we will consider applications from individuals without a degree who have significant management experience

Apprentices aged 16-18 who do not hold Level 2 / GCSE Maths and English Qualifications will be required to complete Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship.

Apprentices aged 19+ who do not hold or are unable to evidence achievement of Level 2 / GCSE Maths and English Qualifications will be required to undertake an initial assessment to assess their current working level. The outcome of this will be shared with the employer to inform the decision as to whether the apprentice will study Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship.

There are no additional costs for these qualifications.

They must also have the right of abode and right to work in the UK to qualify for funding.

Funding

Degree apprenticeships are paid for by employers, not apprentices.

Employers with a payroll of more than £3 million can use their apprenticeship levy contributions to pay for places on apprenticeship programmes.

Any business with a payroll below £3 million is eligible for government funding that will cover at least 95% of the cost of an apprenticeship course.

Additional incentives are also available to employers who recruit new apprentices into their business.
