Program Overview


Overview of the Acting and Performance with Creative Writing BA(Hons) Program

The Acting and Performance with Creative Writing BA(Hons) program is designed for students who have a passion for the stage and performing arts, as well as a desire to explore their own writing. This course combines creative writing with acting and performance, enabling students to develop their writing skills and techniques across a range of creative media, including theatre, film, television, radio, fiction, and poetry.


Program Structure

  • The program is a full-time, three-year course, with an optional one-year placement after the second year.
  • The course is divided into core and option modules, with students having the opportunity to choose from a range of modules in their second and third years.
  • Core modules include Introduction to Creative Writing, Writing Beyond the Page, and Creative Writing Project: Going Public.
  • Option modules may include Studying Performance 1, Text into Performance, Making Performance 1, and Specialist Practice.

Teaching and Assessment

  • Students will experience practical workshops and performance projects in the three theatre/studio spaces, lectures, and seminars, and one-to-one tutorials with specialist staff.
  • Assessment of student work includes essays, research-based practical presentations, creative practical working processes, performance, scripts, and plays, and a dissertation.
  • Feedback is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term-time weeks.

Career Opportunities

  • Drama graduates have gone on to work in the performing arts, award-winning films, television, touring theatre, and running their own performance companies.
  • English Literature graduates have gone on to work in teaching, PR, social media, script writing, and law.
  • Some students have chosen postgraduate study or additional vocational training in specialist areas, whilst a significant number successfully gain teaching qualifications and enter the teaching profession.

Fees and Finance

  • The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students (subject to parliamentary approval).
  • Tuition fees will cover the cost of study at the University, as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.
