Overview

The Advanced Project Management in Construction MSc course is designed for industry professionals seeking to acquire advanced, strategic level skills as project managers in the global construction industry and built environment. The course aims to enable the understanding of process and production management issues, including planning and control approaches, procurement and contract management strategies, the management of resources, and how information technology can be applied to support successful project outcomes with a clear focus on Lean Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Entry Requirements

• An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in a relevant subject or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Alternative qualifications and/or significant experience may be accepted, subject to approval.
• If the first language is not English, the minimum English Language qualification requirement is IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent.

Core Modules

• Lean and BIM in Construction Projects: This module discusses Lean Construction theory and practice, including its application in Building Information Modelling (BIM) enabled projects.
• Advanced Procurement in Construction: This module aims to impart clear knowledge and the skills necessary to understand and apply approaches to achieving construction project success.
• Construction Project Management: Planning and Control: This module prepares students to manage projects within the built environment through the use of advanced planning and control techniques.
• BIM at the Project Level: Collaborative Approaches: This module addresses BIM at the project level, providing understanding and support for the critical evaluation of key issues in collaborative, integrated BIM-based projects.
• Research Methods: This module introduces students to a variety of methods, approaches, and practical issues involved in conducting academic research.
• Major Project: This module gives students the opportunity to undertake a major, in-depth piece of work, often integrating elements from previous studies or professional experiences.

Fees and Finance

Tuition Fees - Full-time

In 2025/26, the full-time tuition fee for UK postgraduate students on this course will be £8,900 (Band 2).

Tuition Fees - Part-time

In 2025/26, the part-time tuition fee for UK postgraduate students on this course will be £740 (Band 2) per 15 credit module and £1,480 (Band 2) per 30 credit module.

Materials

Students will need to supply their own materials during the course, including books, equipment, materials, and printing, with an approximate cost of £250.
