Overview of the Biomedical Science BSc(Hons) Course

The Biomedical Science BSc(Hons) degree course is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge needed to perform clinical research and promote the health of both humans and animals. Year 3 - Optional Placement Year

• Supervised Work Experience: This placement year allows students to experience employment within organizations related to their chosen course.

Final Year

  • Mechanisms and Pathology of Cancer and other Chronic Diseases
  • Practical Skills in Clinical Pathology and Biochemistry

Teaching and Assessment

• Students will be taught through a series of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory work.
• Assessment will include project work, teamwork, assignment, and examinations.
• The final year research project contributes to the degree classification.

• Graduates from this course can consider a wide range of career options in areas such as medical research, the NHS, molecular sciences, medical genetics, pharmaceuticals, developing scientific patents, medical sales or marketing, medical writing, and teaching.
• Previous graduates from other Biological Sciences courses at Huddersfield have gone on to work in roles such as Clinical Bioinformatician, Laboratory Technician, Microbiology Medical Laboratory Technician, and Nuclear Medicine Sales Executive.

Fees and Finance

• The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students.
• Optional purchase of academic textbooks, for example, the book series Fundamentals of Biomedical Science (Oxford University Press), with prices ranging from £26 to £43 each.
