Overview of the Construction Project Management BSc(Hons) Course

The Construction Project Management BSc(Hons) course at the University of Huddersfield is accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). This course provides students with the first step to becoming a qualified project manager in the construction industry. The degree has been developed to work alongside other courses such as Architecture, Architectural Technology, and Quantity Surveying, allowing students to develop a strong understanding of professionalism within the construction industry.


Course Objectives and Outcomes

  • The course introduces aspects of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Lean Construction to equip students with the skills to take a project to completion, on time and on budget.

Course Detail

Year 1

  • Core modules:
    • Construction Business and Law: Introduces the overall construction business, covering industry, project, and individual levels.
    • Design and Construction Practice: Focuses on the practical application of materials, components, and systems to small-scale structures and buildings.
    • Building Technology and Digital Communication: Covers principles and practices of building technology, digital technologies, communication, and representation in the context of architecture and construction.
    • Collaborative Project Built Environment: Provides an opportunity to work in multi-disciplinary teams, enabling students to perform tasks in the context of a team-based project.
    • Project Planning and Finance: Prepares students to manage projects within the Built Environment through advanced planning and control techniques.

Year 2 and Beyond

  • The course offers an optional one-year (48 week minimum) work placement after the second year, in the UK or abroad, giving students valuable hands-on experience and insight into their chosen career.
  • Core modules in later years include Procurement and Contract Administration, Professional Practice, Lean and Sustainability, and Major Project Dissertation.

  • The course offers an optional one-year work placement, which can be in the UK or abroad, providing students with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and open up graduate employment prospects.

Fees and Finance

  • The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students (subject to parliamentary approval).
  • Tuition fees will cover the cost of study at the University, including registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.
