Program Overview
Overview
The Creative Music Production MA course aims to enable producers and musicians to fully integrate their use of studio technology into their musical practice. This Master's level course is designed for both music and music technology graduates, but also for learners from industry or practitioner backgrounds who are looking to develop their musical and technical skills and knowledge.

Entry requirements
- You are required to have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree from a recognised University or equivalent institution.
- If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent.

Course Detail
Modules
- Researching Music: This module introduces you to a range of significant and contemporary scholarship relating to the study of music, including that pertaining to music production, composition, and sonic arts.
- Advanced Desktop Music Production: This module professionalises techniques in computer-based music, focusing on modern approaches to music production.
- Mixing Audio: This module focuses on the theory, processes, and tools involved in mixing a range of contemporary music.
- Creativity in the Studio: This module investigates the studio as a creative tool and its relationship to your practice as a songwriter, performer, composer, or producer.
- Group Project: You will work in a small group of students to devise, manage, and realise a practice-based creative project that is relevant to using the studio and/or other music technology.
- Creative Project: On this module, you undertake a substantial independent creative production project. You can undertake work in any area of creative music production that interests you.
Teaching and Assessment
- The course is mainly taught through on-site lectures, tutorials, workshops, and directed research and practical work.
- Assessment methods reflect the practical nature of the course and reinforce the ability to apply knowledge and skills directly linked to project work and creative outcomes.
- Assessment will include coursework, presentations, vlogs, and peer review.

Fees and Finance
Tuition Fees - full-time
- In 2025/26, the full-time tuition fee for UK postgraduate students on this course will be £8,900 (Band 2).
Tuition Fees - part-time
- In 2025/26, the part-time tuition fee for UK postgraduate students on this course will be £740 (Band 2) per 15 credit module and £1,480 (Band 2) per 30 credit module.

On graduating from this course, you will have developed advanced skills required in a range of careers involving creative music production, including portfolio careers that might include producing, mix engineering, studio managing, session playing, recording artist work, music promotion, and further scholarly work and study.

Student Support
The school has dedicated Academic Skills Tutors (AST) who deliver a range of generic skills. The AST offers help and advice with general study skills, IT, literacy, and numeracy as well as research skills. The AST may also refer students for specialist support and assessment.
