Program Overview
Education (Early Years) BA(Hons)
The Education (Early Years) BA(Hons) course is designed for early years practitioners who are passionate about working with children and their families. The course focuses on current issues in early childhood development and the importance of high-quality early years provision.
Overview
The course explores a variety of issues related to children and early childhood, including health and wellbeing, education, learning and development, and wider topics such as safeguarding, society, and early years practice. Students will develop as reflective, evidence-based practitioners and gain the essential practical and professional skills to work with children and families in the early years.
Entry Requirements
- 112 UCAS tariff points from a combination of A Levels or Level 3 qualifications in Early Childhood, Learning Support, or a related educational area.
- Merit in T Level.
- Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit or above.
- 112 UCAS tariff points from International Baccalaureate qualifications.
- GCSE English Language at grade 4 or above (grade C or above if awarded under the previous GCSE grading scheme), or equivalent.
- Be in employment or voluntary work in an appropriate registered setting (for a minimum of 120 hours per year) and have support from your employer.

Teaching and Assessment
Teaching on this course typically takes place on Saturdays at the University campus to ensure flexibility and access for those working within school and other childcare settings during the week. Assessments vary and include essays, developing creative and teaching resources to support children's learning, student-led seminars, presentations, and timed tests.
Fees and Finance
The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £1,589 per 20 credit module and £2,384 per 30 credit module per year for part-time students. Tuition fees will cover the cost of study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.

Previous graduates have progressed as childcare workers, primary and early years teachers, teaching assistants, special needs support roles, play therapists, and social support workers. Upon successful completion, students may also consider pursuing further study, including a PGCE or other professional Master's programs.

Further Study
Progression to a postgraduate course is dependent on successful completion of undergraduate studies. There may also be minimum qualification requirements, such as a first-class or higher second (2.1) degree. The University offers a range of postgraduate courses, including the Primary and Early Years Education PGCE with QTS, Primary Education PGCE with QTS, and Education (Early Childhood Studies) MA.

Inspiring Graduate
One of the highlights from the course was when one of the tutors visited a student in placement in their first year. The tutor discussed what the student was finding interesting in their studies, and this helped lay the seeds for what the student wanted to do in the future. The student is now doing a Master's in Psychology and Education and aims to complete a PhD in Educational Psychology. The student's long-term aim is to become an educational psychologist and engage in research and debate about children's experiences of their education.
