This course is primarily aimed at those working either within the education and training sector or related areas including health, careers, and the uniformed services looking to further their professional knowledge and skills.

Overview

The course is primarily delivered via an innovative ‘blended learning’ style which combines face-to-face Saturday day schools and creative online activities with both individual and collaborative study. Your practice is the starting point to help strengthen your confidence in critical debate, enterprise in leading ideas, ability to influence policy, and in developing your digital and academic scholarship. You’ll need access to appropriate technology and be prepared to try out new and changing technologies.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for this course are normally one of the following:

• Cert Ed or level 5 teaching/training/education qualification
• Foundation Degree from the University of Huddersfield Candidates not meeting the above academic requirements but who are able to demonstrate significant and relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis. In addition, you must also demonstrate at least two years teaching or training experience and be in an educational or training role.

• Year 1:
  • Core modules:
    • Professional Practice (Advanced): This module is focused on enhancing your professionalism and practice through structured workplace learning.
    • Improving Teaching and Learning: This module will allow you to explore innovative and creative developments in teaching and learning practice.
    • Critical Education: This module seeks to explore the social, cultural, political, and economic context of education.
• Year 2:
  • Core modules for the Honours degree:
    • Research Methodologies: This module explores a range of research strategies and methods, preparing you to assess the value and significance of different approaches to data collection and analysis within your field of study.
    • Major Study: This module allows you to pursue your particular interests and demonstrate the breadth of knowledge, understanding, and strengths that you have developed during your degree studies.
    • Reflexive Study: This module encourages you to make explicit links between your modules and your own practice, seeking to deepen your understanding of key issues.

Teaching and Assessment

You’ll be taught through a combination of teaching approaches including full-day workshops and day-schools (normally taking place on Saturdays) held at the University of Huddersfield, via our online learning network, and through work-based learning projects. Assessments vary and include essays, presentations, poster presentations, reports, and a major empirical study.

Fees and Finance

• Tuition Fees - Part-time: The part-time tuition fee for this course for 2025/26 entry will be £2,380.50 per 30 credit module.
• Tuition fees will cover the cost of your study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.
