Overview

The Emergency Care PgCert course is designed for health professionals working in an emergency care setting, providing academic accreditation to the specialist knowledge and skills required to work in the field of emergency care. Key Information

Entry Requirements

  • Have an honours degree at 2:2 or above or can demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills at honours degree standard.
  • Must be a health or social care practitioner, registered with a professional body such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Currently working in an emergency care setting and have at least 12 months post-registration employment.

Core Modules

  • Emergency Care of Special Circumstances and Vulnerable Groups: This module provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge and understanding of emergency care in special circumstances and with vulnerable groups, such as children or older people.
  • Assessment, Care and Management of the Acutely Ill Individual: This module enhances knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiological effects of acute illness or traumatic injury, with emphasis on holistic assessment and management plans.

Teaching and Assessment

  • Modules are delivered through lectures, small group tutorials, and simulation.
  • Assessment involves essays, individual presentations, and practice-based portfolios of evidence.

Placements

  • Practice-based learning and assessment will normally be within the student's own emergency care setting, but alternative settings may be arranged if necessary.
