Overview

The Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Management is designed for engineering professionals and recent graduates to build core competencies in engineering management and advance their careers. This course introduces students to the principles of engineering management with a focus on real-world application and professional development.


Key Information

Entry Requirements

  • An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related science subject area such as physics or mathematics, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • If the first language is not English, students will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent, and the minimum requirement for Duolingo English Test is a score of 105 or above.

Modules

  • Project and Finance Management: Develops understanding of the strategic aspects of programme and project management and its role in adding competitive advantage to an organisation.
  • New Product Development: Strengthens the essential skills needed to implement and manage the New Product Development (NPD) process within an industrial organisation.
  • Fundamentals of Management: Focuses on the fundamentals of why organisations exist and what organisations and managers ‘do.’ Students learn core aspects of management including strategic decision making, marketing, accounting and finance, and operations.

Teaching and Assessment

  • A variety of assessments will be used, varying by module, including reports on analysing pre-recorded lab experiments and individual/group projects.
  • All assignments will be submitted and marked through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to ensure timely feedback.

Technology and System Requirements

  • Personal computer with minimum specifications (Intel Core i5 or AMD A10 or equivalent, 4GB of RAM, screen resolution of at least 1280x800px).
  • Internet connection with sufficient bandwidth to allow video streaming (4Mps minimum).
  • Microphone and webcam.
  • Browser: Latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, or Microsoft Edge.
  • Operating systems: Windows 10 or later, Mac OS X 10.13 or later, Linux 64-bit distribution.
