Overview

The Engineering Management PgDip (Distance Learning) is designed to meet the growing demand for engineering professionals who can apply management techniques effectively within technical environments. This postgraduate diploma enhances skills in managing engineering projects, teams, and processes by studying principal areas in the field of management, such as project and finance management, new product development, and quality systems management.

Entry Requirements

• An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related science subject area such as physics or mathematics, or an equivalent professional qualification.
• If the first language is not English, a minimum English Language qualification is required: IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent.

Course Detail

Core Modules

• Project and Finance Management: Develops understanding of strategic aspects of programme and project management and its role in adding competitive advantage to an organisation.
• Quality Systems and Measurement: Builds upon previously acquired understanding of Operations Management, Quality Assurance and Control, and statistical techniques employed in probability theory.
• New Product Development: Strengthens essential skills needed to implement and manage the New Product Development (NPD) process within an industrial organisation.
• Fundamentals of Management: Focuses on the fundamentals of why organisations exist and what organisations and managers ‘do.’

Option Modules

• Manufacturing Systems Automation: Gains an understanding of the technical, commercial, and management aspects of a modern automated manufacturing process.
• Process Measurement and Control: Covers key computer control systems and the use of both analog and digital instruments.
• Advanced CAD: Provides an in-depth introduction to the principles and applications of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) within the industrial context.
• Modelling of Electromechanical Systems: Equips students with the qualities and transferable skills necessary to design, model, and simulate electromechanical systems.

Teaching and Assessment

• Engage in both individual and collaborative learning through the Virtual Learning Environment, Brightspace.
• Weekly quizzes and assignments help focus guided learning, culminating in online live sessions for questions and group discussions.
• A variety of assessments are used, varying by module, including reports on analysing pre-recorded lab experiments and individual/group projects.

Technology and System Requirements

• Personal computer with minimum specifications: Intel Core i5 (Minimum Dual Core 2 GHz) or AMD A10 or equivalent, 4GB of RAM, screen resolution of at least 1280x800px.
• Internet connection with sufficient bandwidth to allow video streaming (4Mps minimum).
• Microphone and webcam.
• Specific software requirements include Microsoft Teams, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Office 365.

• The total fee for UK and international students on this course in 2025/26 is £6,600.
