English Literature with Creative Writing BA(Hons)
The English Literature with Creative Writing BA(Hons) course is designed for students who love books and dream of writing their own. This course allows students to read and discuss some of the greatest works ever written, while discovering their own voice and developing their talent as a writer.
Overview
Studying Creative Writing alongside English Literature gives students the chance to explore literature from a writer’s perspective and to develop their own skills – through understanding and enjoyment of some of the world’s best literature. This combination of study will help students grow into a reflective, independent thinker and effective communicator.

Teaching and Assessment
An average 15.7% of the study time on this course is spent with tutors (either face to face or online) in lectures, seminars and workshops. Students will have the opportunity to develop their learning through lectures and seminars on particular authors and genres. They will also be able to take part in workshops where they might learn how to write better essays, produce a digital artefact or design a research project.
Placements
The course offers a compulsory 5 week work placement in Year 2. If studying full-time, this course also offers an optional one-year (48 weeks) work placement after the second year, in the UK or abroad.
Fees and Finance
- Tuition Fees - full-time: The maximum fees for UK based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students.
- Tuition Fees - part-time: The maximum fees for UK based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £1,589 per 20 credit module and £2,384 per 30 credit module per year for part-time students.
- Additional Costs: Students are responsible for making their own arrangements for any travel or incurred costs in relation to the placement module, or in relation to the optional placement year if they chose to undertake one as part of their degree.
