Film Studies and English Literature BA(Hons)

Overview

The Film Studies and English Literature BA(Hons) course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between the written word and the moving image. By combining the study of film and English literature, students will be able to explore texts they love, learn how to analyze and tell stories in written and visual form, and develop a range of creative, technical, and analytical skills.

Course Detail

The course is structured over three years, with a range of core and optional modules. In Year 1, students will study core modules such as Critical Thinking, Introduction to English Literature, Analysing Content, and Digital Video Production. They will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Digital Audio Production and Writing for Journalism.

In Year 2, students will study core modules such as Global Popular Cinema and Work Experience Placement. They will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including American Poetry from the 19th Century to the Present Day, Shakespeare Now and Then, and Twentieth Century Fiction.

In Year 3, students will study core modules such as World Literature, Fantasy, Horror and Cult Film, and Research Dissertation. They will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules, including Extraordinary Gentlemen: Masculinity and Popular Fiction in the Nineteenth Century, Twentieth Century Poetry, and Twentieth Century Drama.

Placements

The course offers the opportunity to complete a 5-week work placement in the second year, as well as an optional one-year work placement after the second year. This will give students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, insight into their chosen career, and open up their graduate employment prospects.
