Overview of the Health Foundation Pathway Leading to a BSc(Hons) Degree
The Health Foundation Pathway leading to a BSc(Hons) degree is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in health or social care. This programme is not available to international students, who should instead apply for the international foundation programmes delivered by the International Study Centre on campus.

Programme Details
The Health Foundation Pathway provides the opportunity for students to start their university journey and be part of a vibrant and diverse student community. Students will have the opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge, and support required to progress towards their chosen profession. In this year of study, students will complete five modules, including:
- Preparing for Study: Foundations for Academic Success
- Preparing for Study: Research Project
- Working with People
- The Context of Health and Social Care
- Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

Eligibility to apply for Year 1 of these courses is normally dependent on achieving an overall pass mark of at least 65 per cent, with some exceptions requiring a pass mark of at least 50 per cent. Students will also be expected to meet any GCSE/level 2 entry requirements of the degree course at the point of applying to join Year 1 of the degree course.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching, learning, and assessment are designed to offer students a variety of learning and assessment opportunities that align with module learning outcomes and offer realistic and effective preparation for progression in the health and social care professions. Assessment involves a combination of coursework, presentations, practice-based learning, and classroom-based tests.
Facilities
The University's new Daphne Steele Building on the site of the National Health Innovation Campus will allow many students to benefit from specialist teaching facilities and world-leading research facilities.
Fees and Finance
The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students, subject to parliamentary approval. Tuition fees will cover the cost of study at the University, as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.
