Overview of Quantity Surveying BSc(Hons)

The Quantity Surveying BSc(Hons) course at the University of Huddersfield is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to become a professionally qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor. The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Course Details

• The course is a three-year full-time program, with an optional placement year.
• The program is designed to work alongside other courses in Architecture, Architectural Technology, and Construction Project Management to develop a strong understanding of professionalism within the construction industry and how to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Two crucial tools for today’s quantity surveyor are Lean Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM), which are explored in depth on the course.

Year 1

Teaching and Assessment

• Students are taught through a series of lectures and tutorials.
• Assessment includes coursework, presentations, and exams.
• On average, 19.7% of study time is spent in lectures, seminars, tutorials, etc.

Placements

• The course offers an optional one-year work placement after the second year.
• The placement will give students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and insight into their chosen career.

Fees and Finance

• The maximum fees for UK-based students on undergraduate courses in 2025/26 will be £9,535 per year for full-time students.
• Tuition fees will cover the cost of study at the University, as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, and examinations.
