TESOL and Younger Learners (Top-up) BA(Hons)

Overview

This course is primarily aimed at international students looking to progress into a career teaching children and young learners English as a second or foreign language.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for this course are normally one of the following:


  • HND or equivalent
  • Foundation degree or 120 ECTS
  • Successful completion of two years higher education with 120 ECTS credits (or equivalent). If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent.

Course Detail

Modules

  • Core modules:
    • Planning Your Final Year Project: This module will help you to learn how to design and conduct a final year project. It does this by exploring a range of research and design approaches, strategies and methods.
    • Final Year Project: This module allows you to pursue your academic and work-related interests and to demonstrate the breadth of knowledge, understanding, and strengths that you have developed during your degree studies.
    • TESOL - Methodologies and Practice: In this module you’ll focus on the theory and practice of English language teaching. You’ll have the opportunity to examine a range of methodologies and materials for the teaching of grammar and skills, from both a practical and theoretical perspective.
  • Option modules:
    • Assessing Learning: This module will develop your understanding of the ways in which assessment contributes to learning and raises achievement.
    • Critical Approaches to Inclusive Education: You will examine definitions and different understandings of inclusion and models of disability, considering a national and global context.

Teaching and Assessment

You’ll be taught through a series of lectures, seminars, tutorials and interactive workshops. On average, 11%* of the study time on the course is spent with your tutors (either face to face or online) in lectures, seminars, tutorials etc. You’ll also have a personal tutor who’ll be assigned to you throughout your degree to support your ongoing wellbeing and ensure that you have a positive learning experience.

The full-time tuition fee for this course for 2025/26 entry will be £9535.


Tuition Fees - Part-time

The part-time tuition fee for this course for 2025/26 entry will be £2380.50 per 30 credit module.
