Overview

The Periodontics MClinDent program is designed to equip students with the skills to provide specialist-level care for the diagnosis, prevention, and management of periodontal diseases, as well as the placement and restoration of dental implants. The program aligns with the UK specialist curriculum for Periodontics and prepares candidates to sit Royal College MPerio examinations.

What You'll Learn

The School of Dental Sciences combines academic learning and clinical training to provide students with a systematic understanding of the evidence base and theoretical principles that underpin specialist Periodontal and Implant Dentistry practice. Students will gain extensive clinical experience, with 2,700 hours of clinical training during the three-year program.

• The Restoration and Maintenance of a Periodontally Compromised Dentition and Dental Implants (20 credits)

• Clinical Speciality Research Project and Dissertation (60 credits)

Facilities

The School of Dental Sciences is modern, occupying a spacious, purpose-built facility with well-equipped, light, and airy clinics. Students have access to the dental e-learning portfolio (identity) and a range of research laboratories and a clinical research facility.

Fees and Funding

Tuition fees for 2026 entry:

• Home students: £57,100 per year (full-time, 36 months)
• International students: £57,700 per year (full-time, 36 months)

Entry Requirements

• Primary Dental Degree (BDS, BChD, DDS)
• At least three years of postgraduate clinical practice equivalent to Foundation Dental Training and Dental Core Training in the UK
• Applicants should be currently in clinical practice
• Experience of academic writing/critical appraisal/professional teaching or presentation
• Fellowship (FDS) or Membership (MFDS) in Dental Surgery from one of the UK Royal Colleges (desirable)

How to Apply

The course starts in September, and the application deadline for 2026 entry is Tuesday, 6th January 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an entrance interview via Zoom, which will include a short critical appraisal and situational judgement exercise. A personal statement, including details of clinical, academic, and research experience, is required. English Language Requirements must be achieved before the application deadline. A deposit of £3,500 is required, which is non-refundable.
