Why This Course?
The program covers areas such as recruitment and selection, training and development, and managing conflict at work. It also provides an insight into the way law affects organizations. Students can join the HRM Society to share knowledge and practice, and build relationships with alumni and employers.
Course Content
The course is structured over four years, with a broad-based Year 1 curriculum that introduces students to a wide range of business disciplines. From Year 2, students take modules in their chosen subjects, including Human Resource Management and Business Law.
Human Resource Management
- Year 1: Introduction to Tourism Studies and Managing People, Introduction to Economics and Business Analysis & Technology, Introduction to Finance and Financial Analysis, Introduction to International Business
- Year 2 & 3: Core classes cover more in-depth HRM theories and techniques, with a focus on workplace behavior from an organizational psychology point of view in Year 2 and sociological theories in Year 3
- Year 4: Specialist classes at single or joint Honours, with the opportunity to study abroad in Europe, North America, or elsewhere for one or two semesters
Business Law
- Year 1: Core Business Law class introduces the main areas of study, including the law of contract and negligence
- Years 2 & 3: Choice from a variety of business-related law subjects and electives
- Year 4: Opportunity to select Business Law as part of a Joint Honours degree, studying it in greater detail
Learning and Teaching
Teaching is over two semesters in blocks of 12 weeks, with classes taught through lectures, tutorials, and seminars alongside team-based projects, online materials, and interactive sessions.
Assessment
The majority of classes involve a final unseen exam, supplemented by individual and/or group coursework. Assessment methods include business reports, case studies, essays, presentations, individual and group projects, learning journals, and peer assessments.

Careers
Graduates who specialize in HRM find jobs in insurance, retail, manufacturing, recruitment consultancy, and general management. Graduates who specialize in Business Law develop excellent research and analytical skills, with career opportunities in government services, commerce and industry, banking and insurance, management and administration. Some graduates continue to an accelerated graduate LLB degree.
