Introduction to Journalism, Media and Culture BA Honours
The Journalism, Media and Culture BA Honours degree at Newcastle University is a three-year program that focuses on developing students' writing, production, and communication skills across a range of platforms. This hands-on degree program ensures students develop the practical skills critical in multimedia journalism, as well as an in-depth academic knowledge across all aspects of journalism and media theory.

Modules and Learning
The program is divided into three stages, each lasting one academic year. Students will complete modules totaling 120 credits by the end of each stage. Stage 1
In the first year, students are introduced to the principles and practices of multi-platform journalism, focusing on the skills needed to master multimedia technology. Students will develop their writing skills and explore the role of media and culture in contemporary society from a historical and theoretical perspective.
Stage 2
In the second year, students will expand their skills across print, magazine, online, and broadcast journalism and learn about regulations, legislation, and ethics relevant to the media industries. Students will tailor the degree to their interests by choosing from a wide range of optional modules.
Stage 3
In the final year, students will put the knowledge and skills they have gained from stages 1 and 2 into practice through practical journalism modules and a dissertation that focuses on a specific area of journalism, media, and culture. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in international pop-up newsroom events and develop a comprehensive portfolio of work.

Students will have access to professional-standard video and audio equipment, studio space, and AV-editing facilities. The university is based in the Armstrong Building and Film@CultureLab, right at the heart of the city-center campus.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships
