Program Overview

The program "Dark Models and Bright Ideas: Shaping Research Questions with the Public" is designed to shape research questions with the public.


Eligibility Criteria

This programme is open to people and organisations based in the North East and North Cumbria, as well as those from the following organisations:


  • NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
  • NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC)
  • NIHR Innovation Observatory (IO)
  • NIHR Research Support Service (RSS)
  • NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU)
  • NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN)
  • NIHR HRC in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation (HRC)

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, a learner will be able to:


  • Understand the role of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in shaping and prioritising research questions in health research.
  • Apply a structured approach to generate and prioritise relevant research questions.
  • Identify key stakeholders to involve in the co-production and prioritisation of research questions across different stages of research.
