Program Overview
The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) is a flexible, academic development degree that normally takes one to two years of part-time study. This program examines factors influencing teaching, learning, and assessment in higher education and offers a range of intellectual and practical methods to inform, explore, and develop learning and teaching across the disciplines.

Course Content
To obtain a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), participants must complete three classes: two core classes and one optional class. The program uses experiential and reflective techniques to ensure learning outcomes are applicable, useful, and based on authentic activity. Classes involve a synchronous element, blended learning elements, and individual study.
Learning and Teaching
All classes are taught using experiential and reflective techniques. Online elements are conducted through the University's online learning environment, and participants who are unable to attend on-campus sessions can access them remotely or via catch-up on demand.
Assessment
Assessment types differ from class to class and align constructively with teaching and learning aims. Essays, presentations, individual projects, and other methods are commonly used.
Entry Requirements
- Academic requirements: An honors degree or equivalent qualification/experience
- Eligibility: The PGCLTHE is a part-time academic program available to both University of Strathclyde staff and external applicants. Applicants must be currently employed in a role that significantly involves teaching, learning, and assessment in higher education.
Fees and Funding
- Fees may be subject to updates to maintain accuracy. Tuition fees will be notified in the offer letter.
- Annual revision of fees: Students on programs of study of more than one year should be aware that the majority of fees will increase annually.
- Fee status: Information on fee status, including for Republic of Ireland citizens, is available on the UKCISA website.
