Linguistics with French BA Honours

The Linguistics with French BA Honours programme is a four-year degree that focuses on developing students' understanding of how languages function, how they are structured, and how people communicate. Alongside linguistics, students will build on their French language skills and have the opportunity to immerse themselves in French culture.

Opportunities

Students will spend the third year of their degree in a French-speaking country, where they can:


  • study at one of the University's partner institutions
  • teach English as a foreign language under the British Council assistantship programme
  • take a work placement
  • combine study with work placement

The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is located in the Percy Building, which is at the heart of the city-centre campus. Students will have access to:

Entry Requirements

All candidates are considered on an individual basis and the University accepts a broad range of qualifications.


  • A-Level: ABB including French. Candidates with AS Level French (minimum grade B) will also be considered.
  • International Baccalaureate: A minimum of 32 points with grade 5 in French at higher level.
