Program Overview

The BA Hons Hospitality and Tourism Management & Marketing program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as the principles of marketing. Why This Course?

The Department of Marketing at Strathclyde is recognized as one of the leading centers of marketing education and research in the UK. This course will help students develop the skills for a variety of marketing and management careers. Students will understand customer requirements, added-value products and services, and the role of communications in customer satisfaction.


Course Content

The course is designed to provide students with a broad-based education in business and marketing, as well as specialized knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industry. The course content includes:

Year 1

In the first year, students will study a range of business disciplines across four subject modules, plus three core integrating modules in international business, business knowledge and skills, and academic skills.


Year 2

In the second year, students will take modules in the subjects in which they choose to specialize. The Management Development Programme (MDP) is a central element of the undergraduate program in the Strathclyde Business School.


Year 3

In the third year, students will have the opportunity to gain experience working with industry professionals, to develop practical skills and reflective practice, and to build networks for possible future employment.


Year 4

In the final year, students will have the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of marketing or hospitality and tourism management. The dissertation is an important part of the fourth-year program, and single honors students are required to submit a dissertation in Marketing.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching is over two semesters in blocks of 12 weeks. Classes are taught through lectures, tutorials, and seminars alongside team-based projects, online materials, and interactive sessions using personal response systems.


Assessment

The majority of classes involve a final unseen exam which is normally at the end of the semester. This is normally supplemented by one or more forms of individual and/or group coursework.

They find jobs in drinks, finance, and service sectors with roles including brand manager, media executives, and retail buyers. Graduates who specialize in Hospitality & Tourism Management have a combination of practical and business skills. They can understand and respond to consumer needs. Recent graduates have been recruited into the hotel industry and the service sector with job titles such as graduate trainee, manager, restaurant supervisor, and trainee accountant.
