The program combines the study of physics with teaching methods and practice, providing students with the skills and knowledge required to become effective physics teachers.
Key Facts
- Open to international applicants only
- Combines physics with teaching methods and practice
- Curriculum specifically designed for international students
- Learn with Scotland’s largest provider of Initial Teacher Education
Why This Course?
In addition to studying core physics modules, students will study pedagogy and aspects of education that will prepare them to become physics teachers in secondary schools. There is a strong emphasis on laboratory work, which will help students develop a sound understanding of experimental physics and instrumentation.
What You'll Study
The program is structured over four years, with each year building on the previous one. The course content includes:
- Year 1: Foundations of physics, mathematics, mechanics, waves, electromagnetism, quantum physics, and practical work in the teaching laboratory.
- Year 2: Increased understanding of physics and mathematics topics, extension of scientific computing, and more sophisticated laboratory work.
- Year 3: Extension of study of quantum physics and electromagnetism, introduction to new topics such as condensed matter physics and fluids, and development of laboratory skills.
- Year 4: Development of pedagogy, including classes on professional values, professional learning through enquiry, and curriculum and pedagogy physics.
