Program Overview
The University offers various programs in Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, including PhD, MPhil, MRes, and EngD. These programs are designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen field.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for these programs, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A first-class or upper second-class BEng Honours degree, or equivalent, or an MSc in a related subject.
- Transcripts and certificates of all degrees.
- Proof of English language proficiency if English is not the applicant's first language.
- Two references, one of which must be academic.
- Funding or scholarship information.
- A research proposal of 250 to 1,000 words in length, detailing the subject area and topic to be investigated.
Research Supervisors
Research supervisors are assigned to students by the department of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering. Students can indicate their preferred supervisor in their application, but the department will team them up with the best supervisor for their project.

Start Dates
Programs start between October and September of each year, with specific dates as follows:
- Oct 2024 - Sep 2025
- Oct 2025 - Sep 2026
- Oct 2026 - Sep 2027
Additional Requirements
International students may require an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate, depending on their program and country of origin. UK or EU students will be issued with registration documentation upon acceptance of their offer. All students must fulfill any academic, administrative, or financial conditions specified by the University.
