Overview
This Micro-credential is designed for midwives, medical practitioners, and allied health professionals working in a perinatal setting or with an obstetric population. The course aims to equip clinicians with a deep understanding of psychological birth trauma, assessment and identification of women with psychological birth trauma, and the principles of trauma-informed care.

Course Content
On completion of this course, clinicians will:
- Have a deep understanding of psychological birth trauma
- Be equipped to assess and identify women who have psychological birth trauma
- Be aware of how the health system can contribute to birth trauma and steps that can be taken to minimize this negative impact
- Be aware of the principles of trauma-informed care and will be reflective of their own practice and that of the institution they work in
- Be able to support a woman with psychological birth trauma in the maternity care setting
- Be aware of the different treatment modalities and how to access them
Delivery and Assessment
- The course will be delivered through 6 in-person teaching days with complimentary online material and learning resources to support learning.
- The delivery of this course will be highly interactive and focused on clinical practice.
- Assessment will be through a formative reflection portfolio based on clinical practice, elements of which will feed into a summative essay.
