Program Overview


Overview of the Irish for Teachers (P.Grad.Cert.) Program

The Irish for Teachers (P.Grad.Cert.) program is a two-year part-time course offered by Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with Marino Institute of Education. The program aims to improve the skills of registered post-primary teachers in teaching Irish and enable them to teach the language up to Leaving Certificate level.


Program Structure

  • The program is a two-year part-time course, commencing in January 2025.
  • It is designed to accommodate teachers working full-time or part-time and those located throughout the country.
  • The course combines online and on-campus lectures, with 60% of the lectures delivered online and 40% on-campus, in the evenings, on Saturdays, and during school holidays.
  • A Gaeltacht residential period is included as part of the course.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Leibhéal B1 certificate in Irish (TEG) or equivalent.
  • Applicants must be registered with the Teaching Council.
  • A checklist of required documents includes:
    • Proof of registration with the Teaching Council
    • Proof of B1 level in Irish (TEG certificate or letter from a 3rd level institution)
    • Academic transcript (minimum 2.2 in a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's in Education)
    • Current CV
  • Priority will be given to applicants based on their teaching experience, language skills, and school requirements (as verified by the school principal).

Course Fees

  • The course is funded by the Department of Education, and participants will not be required to pay tuition fees.
