Overview of the Product Design Engineering MEng (Hons) Degree
The Product Design Engineering MEng (Hons) degree at Loughborough University is a 5-year full-time program with a placement year or a 4-year full-time program. This course blends design principles, ergonomics, engineering science, and technology to create new products, integrated with manufacturing processes, technology, and knowledge to turn designs into reality.
Entry Requirements
- Typical A level offer: AAA including Maths and either Design and Technology or Physics
- Typical IB offer: 37 (6,6,6 HL) including HL Maths and either Design Technology or Physics at HL
- Typical BTEC offer: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: DDD* in a relevant subject plus A Level Maths at grade A
- GCSE: GCSE English Language grade 4/C
Fees

Course Structure
The course is structured over 5 years for the MEng with a placement year, with the first two years providing a solid foundation in design core skills, combined with manufacturing technology and processes modules. The third and fourth years offer broadening and deepening of the design and engineering learning experience, enabling further development of the technical aspects and addressing the strategic and managerial challenges facing the implementation of new professional approaches in industry.

Placement Year
The placement year provides students with the opportunity to gain industrial experience. The university has a dedicated placements team that helps students secure placements. Previous students have worked with companies such as 3M Healthcare, BAE Systems, BP, DERA, Dyson, Eurotherm Drives Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Schlumberger, Tata Steel, The Boots Co. plc, Toyota, Triumph, TRW Lucas Aerospace, and Vauxhall.
Study Abroad
Students also have the opportunity to study abroad with the university's partner universities. The length of the study abroad placement would be confirmed by the School or Department.
