Program Overview


Overview of the Program

The Computer and Electronic Engineering MEng (Hons) degree is designed to teach students how to combine digital electronics, microprocessors, and software to develop and enable the potential of embedded computer systems. Embedded systems can be found in devices such as mobile phones, game consoles, car engine management systems, traffic lights, and wireless routers.


Program Structure

The program is offered as a 5-year full-time course with a placement year or a 4-year full-time course. The structure of the first two years is common between the BEng and MEng, providing students with engineering and electrical science core skills, combined with computer systems, programming modules, and engineering management.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Typical A level offer: AAA, including Maths and either Computing, Computer Science, Electronics, Further Maths, or Physics.
  • Typical IB offer: 37 (6,6,6 HL), including HL Maths and either Computer Science or Physics at HL.
  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: DDD* in a relevant subject, plus A Level Maths at grade A.
  • GCSE English Language: grade 4/C.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are as follows:


  • UK fees: £9,535 per annum for full-time courses.
  • International fees: £30,700 per annum for full-time courses.
  • Placement year: approximately 20% of the full-time fee.

Additional Awards

By undertaking a year on professional placement or working in industry, students will gain an additional award alongside their final qualification. If students undertake a professional placement year, they will gain a Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS). If students complete a year in industry, they will gain a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). Students who study abroad for a year will gain a Diploma in International Studies (DIntS).
