Program Overview
Introduction to the Program
The Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering MEng (Hons) degree is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of robotics, mechatronics, and control disciplines. The program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to develop high-flying careers within various industrial sectors.
Program Structure
The MEng course is the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. The structure of the first two years is common between the BEng and MEng, providing students with engineering and electrical science core skills, combined with control system design and mechanical engineering for robotics. The MEng structure is distinct from the BEng course in the third and fourth academic years, offering enhanced opportunities to study specialist subjects in depth.
Key Features
- The program is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), licensed by the UK Engineering Council.
- A UK Engineering Council accredited course is an important mark of assurance that the course meets the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence.
- The course combines theoretical and practical engineering principles, with application to real industrial problems.
- Students have the opportunity to specialize in a specific area through optional module choices during the third year for BEng students, and during the third and fourth years for MEng students.
Entry Requirements
- Typical A level offer: AAA including Maths and either Computing, Computer Science, Electronics, Further Maths or Physics.
- Typical IB offer: 37 (6,6,6 HL) including HL Maths and either Computer Science or Physics at HL.
- BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: DDD* in a relevant subject plus A Level Maths at grade A.
- GCSE English Language grade 4/C.
Tuition Fees
- UK fees: £9,535 per annum for full-time courses.
- International fees: £30,700 per annum for full-time courses.
- Placement year: approximately 20% of the full-time fee.
Career Opportunities
The course equips students with the skills to work across the robotics and automation world, from robotic systems on production lines, to autonomous vehicles, and domestic service robots. We have fantastic industry links with a range of companies including Adidas, Bentley, BMW, Bosch, BP, Coca Cola, Dyson, E.ON, Ford, GSK, Mercedes-Benz, Pirelli, Puma, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, Thorntons, and Unilever.
