Program Details

Art, Studio Art Specialization, B.A.

Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the undergraduate program in studio art will:

1. Demonstrate conceptual and technical competency within one or more aspects of the visual arts.
2. Exhibit evidence of professionalism by developing a portfolio (of artwork or writing samples), resume, and artist statement, locating their own work within historical and contemporary contexts.

• FYE 1001 First Year Experience
• AS 2001 The Liberal Arts and Preparation for Life after Graduation
• ENGL 1033 Exposition and Argumentation or
  • FS 1963 First Seminar I and
  • FS 1900 Writing Studio
• FS 1973 First Seminar II
• Foreign Language (12-14 hours)
• MATH 1083 Contemporary Mathematics (STAT 2013 or a higher MATH course taken for the major requirements will fulfill this requirement)
• 4973 Senior Project (3 hours)

General Curriculum

• Quad I: Creative Arts (6 hours)
• Quad II: Humanities (6 hours)
• Quad III: Social Sciences (6 hours)
• Quad IV: Natural and Applied Sciences (7 hours)

Some major required courses may be double-counted to fulfill a quad requirement.

Studio Art Specialization Requirements

Art Core Courses

• ART 1103 Drawing I or
  • ART 1183 Art and Design Foundations I
• ART 2243 Art and Design Foundations II
• ARTH 2203 Survey of Art History I
• ARTH 2223 Survey of Art History II

Upper Division Electives

Upper Division Studio Art Electives

• Two of the following:
  • ART 3163 Ceramics I
  • ART 3403 Painting I
  • ART 3193 Photography I
  • ART 3103 Sculpture I
  • ART 3243 Graphic Communication I

Upper Division Art History Electives

• Two courses selected from the 3000- or 4000-level art history (ARTH) courses offered by the School of Art

Art Electives

• Three art courses at the 3000 or 4000 level

Students may take an arts, culture, and entertainment management (ACEM) course in place of one art elective.

Minor (12 hours)

Some minors require more than 12 hours.

General Electives (22-24 hours)

Total: 120 hours
