Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the undergraduate program in elementary education will be able to:
- Demonstrate mastery of the central concepts and tools of inquiry of their discipline(s).
- Plan research-based instruction that advances the learning of each student.
- Utilize research-based pedagogy that advances the learning of each student.
- Design curriculum based on state and national standards.
- Demonstrate mastery of the assessment cycle as a component of teaching.
- Demonstrate understanding of the processes of human development and learning.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Promote the success of each student based on a demonstrated understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, and institutional contexts of education.

- Quad IV: Natural and Applied Sciences (7 hours)

Language Arts (9 hours)
- ENGL 1033 Exposition and Argumentation or
- FS 1963 First Seminar I and
- FS 1900 Writing Studio
- FS 1973 First Seminar II
- EDUC 3103 Children’s Literature
Second Language (12-14 hours)
Completion of a foreign language through Intermediate II or ASL IV is required.
Mathematics (12 hours)
- MATH 1083 Contemporary Mathematics
- MATH 1143 Mathematical Functions or
- MATH 1243 Applied Calculus
- QM 2013 Statistics I or
- STAT 2013 Introduction to Statistics or
- ANSO 2023 Statistics for the Social Sciences or
- PSY 2073 Statistics for Behavioral Psychology
- MATH 4373 Mathematical Concepts and Reasoning
Science (13 hours)
- One course in a physical science. A course in geology is recommended. (3 hours)
- Two additional approved courses (6 hours)
- Lab. Lab requirement cannot be waived. (1 hour)

Social Studies (12 hours)
- One 2000-level American history course
- HIST 2523 History of Oklahoma
- POL 2363 Understanding American Politics
- One additional approved course (3 hours)
The Arts (6 hours)
Two courses (6 hours) chosen from art, music, and theatre. Courses must be from different disciplines.
Physical Education and Health (3 hours)

Elementary Major Methods Requirements (18 hours)
Cluster I
Taken fall of junior year. Required before Cluster III. Courses in clusters must be taken concurrently.

Taken spring of sophomore or junior year. Courses in clusters must be taken concurrently.

At least twelve hours in a single discipline with six hours at the 3000-level or higher or the specified requirements of the minor if different.
