Program Overview
The Special Education (EDD) program is designed to equip candidates with advanced knowledge in core areas, including trends and issues in Special Education, research acquisition and interpretation, and critique of Special Education research and practice.
Program Objectives
The program has three primary objectives:
- SLO 1 Knowledge: Candidates will apply advanced levels of knowledge in the following core areas:
- Trends and issues in Special Education and their relationship to practice, policy, and research
- Acquisition, organization, and interpretation of information about research in Special Education
- Identification of research questions and methodology emanating from different knowledge paradigms
- Critique of Special Education research and practice from various knowledge paradigms
- SLO 2 Skills: Candidates will attain the technical knowledge and skills to become independent scholars capable of conducting research and evaluating educational programs, products, and practices
- SLO 3 Professional Behavior: Candidates will give a presentation to other professionals or submit a paper for publication based on a research project
Program Details
The program focuses on developing candidates' knowledge, skills, and professional behavior in Special Education, with an emphasis on research and practice. The program's core areas include trends and issues in Special Education, research acquisition and interpretation, and critique of Special Education research and practice. Candidates will develop the technical knowledge and skills to become independent scholars, capable of conducting research and evaluating educational programs, products, and practices. Additionally, candidates will demonstrate professional behavior by presenting research projects to other professionals or submitting papers for publication.
