Introduction to the Bachelor of Arts in Criminology
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminology is a degree program offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida. This program enables students to understand crime, how society reacts to it, and the interrelationships between features of law and society. It includes learning about the theories of crime and methods for studying crime, law, and society.
Program Overview
The UF Online B.A. Criminology degree program examines criminal behavior, criminal justice systems, and law from a multidisciplinary, liberal-arts perspective. This program prepares students for careers in the criminal or juvenile justice systems and for further educational ambitions in law school or graduate school.
Program Structure
In addition to completing all university, college, and general degree requirements, students enrolled in the Online Criminology program will have the opportunity to pursue the following:
- Four core courses including Advanced Principles of Criminal Justice, Criminological Theory, and Law and Society
- One law-driven requirement such as Law and Legal Process
- Six criminology and law elective courses, which can be tailored to the student’s individual interests and can include courses like Media and Crime, Juvenile Justice, or Introduction to Law Enforcement

The program prepares students to pursue law school or professional training and provides the necessary skills for students who seek employment immediately after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. B.A. in Criminology graduates can have many career opportunities, including:
- CIA Analyst
- Court Clerk
- Criminal Investigator
- DEA, FBI, or U.S. Border Patrol Agent
- Probation Officer
- Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselor

Admissions Requirements
Freshman & Lower Division Transfer Applicants
- If you have 0-11 transferable college credits, review the Freshman admissions requirements.
- If you have 12-59 transferable credits, review the Lower Division Transfer admission requirements.
Upper Division & Second Bachelor’s Transfer Applicants
Upper division transfer applicants (students with 60 or more college credits earned) and Second Bachelor’s degree seeking applicants should have at least a 2.5 overall GPA, have completed Intro to Statistics 1 (STA 2023) and 9 credits from the following list with at least a 2.5 GPA:
- Criminology: All CCJ, CJL, or CJE prefixes
- History: United States to 1877 (AMH 2010), United States Since 1877 (AMH 2020)
- Anthropology: General Anthropology (ANT 2000), Cultural Anthropology (ANT 2410)
- Economics: Principles of Macroeconomics (ECO 2013), Principles of Microeconomics (ECO 2023)
- Philosophy: Introduction to Philosophy (PHI 2010), Contemporary Moral Issues (PHI 2630)
- Political Science: American and Federal Government (POS 2041), American State and Local Government (POS 2112)
- Psychology: Introduction to Psychology (PSY 2012)
- Sociology: Principles of Sociology (SYG 2000), Social Problems (SYG 2010)
Conditional Admissions
Applicants may be conditionally admitted if they have completed Intro to Statistics 1 (STA 2023) and 6 credits from the above list at the time of application, with both an overall and pre-requisite GPA of 3.0 or above.
