Animal Science Major

Dairy Science Major
The Dairy Science Major focuses on the production and management of dairy cattle, providing students with a strong foundation in dairy science and related disciplines.
Animal Science Minor
The Animal Science Minor requires students to complete a minimum of 17 credits, including:
- AnS 1010 (2 credits) and 1140 (2 credits)
- AnS 2140 (3 credits) and 2140L (1 credit)
- At least one course (3 credits) from: AnS 2160, 2230, 2240, 2250, 2260, 2290, 2350, or 2700
- At least one course (2-3 credits) from: AnS 3190, 3310, 3450, or 3520
- At least one course (2-3 credits) from: AnS 3190, 3200, 3310, 3240, 3360, 3370, 3450, 3520, 3600, or 4190 At least 9 of the 17 credits required for an AnS minor must be completed at Iowa State.
Meat Science Minor
The Meat Science Minor requires students to complete:
- AnS 270 (2 credits)
- AnS 360 (3 credits)
- AnS 460 (3 credits)
- At least one course (1 credit) from: AnS 4890, AnS 4900
- 5-6 credits from: FSHN 3050, FSHN 3110, FSHN 4030, FSHN 4060, FSHN 4100, FSHN 4120, FSHN 4190, FSHN 4200, FSHN 4710, MICRO 4070
Pre-Veterinary Option
The Pre-Veterinary Option provides students with a comprehensive education in animal science, preparing them for careers in veterinary medicine. The program is designed to meet the unique requirements of Iowa State University.
