Program Overview

The Master of Land and Property Development (MLPD) is an entrepreneurship-oriented program of study that combines business and finance with physical planning, design, and construction. The program provides students with the full range of real estate, financial, and management skills they need to succeed in the highly competitive real estate development industry.

Program Details

  • The MLPD program at Texas A&M is one of only a handful of programs in the United States to offer a Master’s degree in real estate development.
  • Unlike many traditional real estate development programs focused solely on finance modeling, the MLPD program incorporates an inter-disciplinary approach that exposes students to real estate development from idea conceptualization to monetizing assets upon stabilization.
  • The Program covers all aspects of development, with project-based courses in financial analysis, market analysis, due diligence, site analysis, project management, construction management, residential and commercial development, and sustainable development.
  • Students typically complete their 36-hours of coursework in fifteen months, and benefit from class sizes ranging from 15 to 30 students.

Method of Study

  • Our program teaches the process of development using hands-on and experience-based approaches.
  • Beyond the classroom, student organizations such as the Real Estate Development Association provide direct access to real estate development professionals throughout the state.
  • Field trips, a speaker series, and networking events with groups such as the Urban Land Institute (ULI) develop our students academically and professionally.

Program Features

  • The program attracts students from practically every academic discipline and utilizes a current and comprehensive curriculum, taught by experienced practitioners, on how to create ecologically sensible, socially acceptable, and financially feasible development ventures.
  • The MLPD program dissolves the boundaries between planning, construction, and environmental issues and between finance, accounting, and market issues.
  • Through rigorous training in due diligence, site analysis, entitlements, project management, and market and financial analysis, graduates become uniquely prepared for the real-world.
