The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in History offered by the Department of History and Classical Studies in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes self-directed and comprehensive learning opportunities. The program offers:

• Access to resources such as the Osler Library of the History of Medicine, the Blackader-Lauterman Library of Architecture and Art, the Islamic Studies Library, the Nahum Gelber Law Library, and the Indian Ocean World Centre (IOWC)
• Collaborations with other McGill units, including the Department of East Asian Studies, the Islamic Studies Institute, the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada, and Social Studies of Medicine
• Collaborations with local universities, such as Concordia University, Université de Montréal, and Université du Québec à Montréal, and local archives, including the archives nationales du Québec—Montréal, the McCord Museum, and the Canadian Jewish Congress National Archives

Admission Requirements

• An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
• English-language proficiency
