Program Overview

The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Foundation Year is designed to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge to develop effective, sustainable solutions and products that meet the varied needs of society. This one-year program aims to equip students with a strong foundational understanding of mechanical, civil, and automotive engineering, preparing them for undergraduate study in these fields.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • A minimum of 80 UCAS Tariff points from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications, such as A-levels, BTEC Diplomas, or International Baccalaureate.
  • GCSE requirements: Maths and English Language at minimum grade 4/C or equivalent.
  • International qualifications: Students with qualifications from outside the UK or US must meet the university's English language requirements, with a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 and 5.5 in each component.

Fees and Funding

The tuition fees for the program are as follows:


  • UK Fee in Year 1: TBC (subject to annual increases)
  • International Fee in Year 1: £34,500 (subject to annual increases)

Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students can progress onto the Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) program, which is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This program prepares students for a career as a practicing engineer, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to progress into technical and engineering roles.
