This micro-credential explores Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation for public health work in Aotearoa New Zealand. Through structured learning, participants will develop an essential understanding of the historical context and significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, as well as a critical analysis of Te Tiriti articles, provisions, and principles, and the implications for health and wellbeing. A particular focus is on understanding and addressing the ongoing impacts of colonization on Māori health outcomes.

This micro-credential provides foundational knowledge for public health workers to develop Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led approaches. By completing the course, participants will be equipped to understand and implement Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led frameworks in their practice.

Successful students will receive 5 credits added to their academic record at Massey. Completion of this course, plus the Introduction to Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Understanding Public Health in Aotearoa New Zealand courses, can be used as recognition of prior learning for Introduction to Public Health in the Bachelor of Health Science.
