Overview of Undergraduate Programs

The School of Agriculture and Biology offers five full-time undergraduate programs: plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology, resource and environmental science, landscape, and food science and engineering. The school adheres to a wide caliber specialized education based on general education and increases efforts in the transformation and upgrading of traditional agricultural disciplines by using biological, information, engineering, and other modern sciences and technologies.

Profile of Bachelor Program

Currently, the school comprises five full-time undergraduate programs. The school actively explores the talents training mode of agricultural science and technology innovation in a comprehensive university. Based on the implementation of studies and discussions on educational thought, the school finalizes the revision of the 2005 edition undergraduate teaching and training program, advocating research-based teaching and learning.

Teaching Approach

The school changes the traditional experiment teaching model for affiliated single theory teaching courses, independently sets the practice teaching course, separates the theoretical course from the laboratory course in the basic course platform, constructs comprehensive experiments for each discipline in specialty-oriented courses, and strengthens the graduation thesis (design) and other practical teaching procedures.

Research and Innovation

The school has strengthened research on the cultivation of innovative talents in agricultural science and technology and the construction of teaching materials. The assignment of research and practice of cultivation methods won the special prize for teaching achievements in higher education and the first prize for teaching achievements in Shanghai.

Admission Criteria

The school enrolls new students according to the principles of “Biotechnology class” and “Environmental & Ecology Category.” There is no need for new students to be allocated to corresponding disciplines. At the end of the 3rd semester, students may select one discipline in their respective majors after approvals from the school and university, based on course grades and personal applications during the first academic year.

Participation in Research Program

The school vigorously implements the Participation in Research Program (PRP) and invests RMB 300,000 for the improvements of experimental conditions in the experiment teaching center, in order to improve the quality of experiment teachings and extracurricular studies. The school also invites on or off-campus academicians and doctoral advisors to open lectures, enabling students to understand the research and development prospects of modern agricultural science and technology and stimulating the enthusiasm for learning among students.
