Program Overview

Program Introduction

The program equips students with research capabilities that will enable them to undertake applied research in foreign or domestic institutions of higher learning and research. Under the guidance of our world-class faculty, doctoral candidates are expected to write quality theses to the same standard as their peers from prominent international schools. Moreover, students are also encouraged to intellectually contribute to major theoretical and policy issues in China's financial sector.

Program Duration

The program duration is:

• 5-6 years for doctoral students with a Bachelor’s degree
• 4 years for doctoral students with a Master’s degree

Courses and Credits

All students must obtain a minimum of 39 credits, with an average grade of major specialized courses not lower than B and a GPA of no less than 2.7.

Academic Essays Requirements

• A review or a research paper must be completed before the end of the summer in the first academic year
• A publishable research paper must be completed before the end of the summer in the second academic year

Overseas Training

PhD students may apply for 6-12 months of training in overseas universities, subsidized by the university's funds. Partner universities include:

Dissertation

The dissertation must comply with the applicable rules of the institute, including the Dissertation Requirements by the PhD Program of the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
