Introduction to Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a world-renowned higher education institution and one of the top universities in China. It has established itself as a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationally-focused university, currently ranked 45th worldwide (QS 2025). The university has 7 campuses and is comprised of 34 schools and departments, 13 affiliated hospitals, 13 affiliated research institutes, 23 directly affiliated units, and 5 directly affiliated enterprises, offering a wide range of degree programs.

Eligibility
The following are general requirements for application to SJTU International Graduate Programs:
- Eligibility: Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
- Health and Character: Applicants should be in good health and possess good character, which includes being physically and mentally healthy and meeting the medical examination requirements of both the country and the university.
- Educational Qualifications:
- For Master's program applicants: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree (or above) recognized in China is required.
- For Doctoral program applicants: A Master’s degree or an equivalent degree (or above) recognized in China is required.
Important Dates
- October 1, 2024: Opening of 2025 applications
- December 15, 2024: Deadline for 1st Round of Chinese Government Scholarship applications
- February 15, 2025: Deadline for the 2nd (and final) Round of Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) applications
- March 31, 2025: Deadline for applications for the SGS Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship
- May 31, 2025: Deadline for self-supported applications
- September 2025: Enrollment
Application Process
To apply, follow these steps:
- Complete the online application at Study@SJTU before the application deadline.
- Pay the application fee, which is RMB 800 (approximately USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable.
Materials to Prepare
The following materials are required for application:
- Degree Certificates: Scanned copies of degree certificates.
- Transcripts: Scanned copies of transcripts.
- Proof of Language proficiency.
- Scanned copy of passport (ordinary passport).
- Passport-size Photo.
- Personal Statement and Study Plan.
- Two Letters of Academic Recommendation: From scholars who are associate professors or higher, or from senior professionals in a related academic field.
- Supervisor Contact Requirement: For certain programs, applicants are required to contact the supervisor beforehand and provide an acceptance letter.
Tuition
- Doctoral Programs: RMB 45,500 per year (approximately USD 6,600 per year).
- Master's Programs: Tuition varies by program.

Incoming international graduate students have two options for scholarship applications: through Shanghai Jiao Tong University or through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in their home country. Scholarships include:
